Don't ever hire movers. Or, just don't move. Don't buy houses. Shout out to Casey Movers of Rockland, MA!

I know I haven't blogged in regular blogs, but we've spent the last two weeks moving -- and move day (s) turned into Hell Week.

This is mostly why.

Thank you CASEY MOVERS of Rockland, MA. (Waits for ads to change)

After a failed "full pack," Casey's "professional packers" left us with truck loads of stuff to pack before our buyers came to the house for their final real estate walk through.  We were thoroughly embarrassed as we packed the last of our household into our own cars in the pouring rain, while the 18-wheeler LEFT US without taking everything.

On move in day, the movers showed up hours and hours LATE.  After arriving, the mover team leader informed us that they "did not feel like" unloading the truck" and were going to go home for the night.  WE WAITED ALL DAY LONG IN AN EMPTY HOUSE AND GOT BABYSITTERS TO UNLOAD THIS TRUCK.  They did not "feel like" emptying the truck and wanted to sleep.  The smell of vanilla cigars OVERWHELMED ME and I was disgusted at the men sleeping in my street in the van.

We asked that if they were going to LEAVE, please unhook the trailer in front of the property.  They attempted to turn around the 53 foot truck in our brand-new cul-de-sac and GOT IT STUCK.  Then, after un-sticking it, they TIPPED IT OVER!

'Anyone with a functioning brain' makes sure they look good in a bikini

What the who!?

'Anyone with a functioning brain' makes sure they look good in a bikini

Clipped from Raw Story -

“If you are offended by an ad with a woman on it or a hot girl or a hot guy then seek therapy,” Fox News host Jedediah Bila advised on Monday. “I mean, go to a therapist. There’s something wrong with you.”

“At this time of year, anyone with a functioning brain asks themselves that question, ‘Are you beach body ready?'” Tantaros insisted. “In fact, I ask myself that question every single day. And I bet you people who have a problem with this ad going into summer time are not beach body ready.”

“It’s such a bunch of bull,” the Fox News host said of critics. “Everyone wants to know if they look good in a swimsuit!”

“You should grow up wanting to look like that anyway,” guest host Chris Plante quipped.

#itfits

It, fits?  OH COME ON.

The NEW AND IMPROVED LAPBAND!

You can do better!

New

Apollo Endosurgery, Inc., the leader in minimally invasive endoscopic surgical products for bariatric and gastrointestinal procedures, today announced the launch of the “It Fits” campaign, aimed at rejuvenating the LAP-BAND® System and educating a broad range of patients about the benefits of the minimally-invasive weight loss procedure.

“It Fits” supports the company’s decision to place greater emphasis on the unique advantage of the LAP-BAND® System – the only FDA approved device for weight reduction for people with at least one weight-related health problem, and having a BMI of 30 or greater.

The new ad spot - from Apollo - tugs right there at your heart, don't it?  I might be tearing up over all of the completely stereotypical situations right here in this here commercial!  OMG I CAN FIT IN THE AEROPLANE SEATBELT WITHOUT AN EXTENDER COULD YOU PLEASE PUT ME IN A COMMERCIAL ALTHOUGH I WAS NEVER SUPER MORBIDLY OBESE I AM JUST AN ACTOR!

Until this and my tears dry up!

Because of course we will ignore the patient histories of thousands -- to have a procedure to lose how much weight?

Just as a frame of reference, that makes me qualify in a few BMI points.  Confession:  when I reached my high weight about the same time the new BMI-qualifications for the Allergan-owned lap-band came around, I decided THAT WAS IT.  I could not possibly do it again, my butt was not revising band-over-bypass for that much weight, not after watching this weight loss community for 12 years.  Nope.

Null and Void. #WLSFA2013 Post #1 Good Tried To Do Good

PHILANTHROPY is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

BBGC Donates to the WLSFA
Donating $1000 to the WLSFA

  1. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  3. To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements.
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  6. To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
  10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

I'm going to add one more:

Don't do this to your donors - particularly when they're YOUR PEOPLE.

That is a scanned image of the check I donated to the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America or WLSFA organization.

I was not home twenty-four hours before I received a letter from the CEO of the foundation and this image with the letters V O I D enscribed across it.  I have not slept much yet - so - forgive my even sharing this with you -

I especially like how I wronged the sponsors.  Because many of them are also mine.  (*See sidebar.  I love my sponsors.  Click their links.  Buy stuff.)

That feels really good, Antonia.  That makes my heart swell with pride and stuff.

It's a day later and I've received no response as to what I did, aside from hand the WLSFA $1000 in a non-confrontational manner.   I actually had to beg them to take it - we were skipped over in the first round of donation announcements - they took it publicly and gave it back like this.

The event itself?  Was a non-issue.  I only have two or three issues that I'd concern myself with -- and they wouldn't involve this check.  At all.  One issue was big enough for me to want to blog - but - I've refrained so far.

My bariatric support group's fundraising is obviously not wanted in this exclusionary non-profit.  I do not know if it's legal to shun a cash donation from legal fundraising.  Lawyers?

As a group we are more than disgusted.  I have spent hours promoting this event, and spent thousands of dollars, and frankly I sit here ashamed that I asked my peers to donate to the cause.

Consider for a second how much I spent just for myself -

  • BBGC Donation - $1000
  • WLSFA Ticket - $150
  • Carnie Wilson Luncheon - $99
  • Flight - $600
  • Hotel - $100+ night
  • Travel (Shuttle, cabs, etc.)
  • Food
  • Discretionary stuff
  • Ticket for a friend

I am more sickened that I suggested friends JOIN ME at the event -- and asked them to spend their hard-earned money on the event as well just to be shunned so specifically.  Friends brought husbands -- this isn't cheap.

I am not a happy MM.  I apologize to YOU.  We learned a hard lesson here.

Tumblr_mczxx1wt3Q1rvaj6zo1_500

We have have offers to take our GOOD elsewhere, of course.   I got offers of help in the middle of the night.  And we will, if you donated or made a purchase - your money is going to another reputable non-profit.  Thank you.

Eat-Rite False food-label information

New York News | NYC Breaking News

According to the labels, they're incredibly low in carbohydrates, calories, and fat. They don't taste like diet food.

THIS MAKES ME FUME.

Lisa Lillian, known as Hungry Girl has her own show on the Food Network, writes cookbooks, and a daily email devoted to guilt-free eating.  She heard from a lot of people that they were suspicious of this pizza.

We took the pizza and some other Eat-Rite products to a certified laboratory and had them tested. The tests found the Chicago Deep Dish Pizza Uno, which the label claims is 210 Calories really has 583 calories. The claim of 6 grams of fat is also bogus. Tests found 29 grams of fat.  Instead of 7 grams of carbohydrates, there are 53 grams.  We also tested Eat-Rite's Pizza Duo and got almost identical results, 577 calories, 28 grams of fat, and 53 grams of carbohydrates.

It's not just the pizza. Eat-Rite's Chic-Wich Sandwich, which the label says has 220 calories, 4 grams of fat, actually has almost double the calories and five times as much fat. The same goes for the Crusty Baked Mac-Cheese, 465 calories, and 23 grams of fat. We contacted Eat-Rite in Clear Lake California three times, and sent them copies of our test results.

We asked to see any proof they have for the claims on their labels, but the company has not responded.

Another revisal.  I'll be sending it to Staten Island After I'm done, for kindling.  It's cold.

PS.  You know why I bought it, right?  Right.  I'll let you know.

Bariatric Eating Susan Maria Leach Network has no email, no phone, zero communication!

Susan Maria Leach of BariatricEating.com repeatedly suggests on her business Facebook page that she's missing customer information and customer orders because of a  "fingerquotes" technical failure. "/fingerquotes"

However, she offers no apology, and has blamed some customers.

BariatricEating.com - "...we have already posted info regarding the status of the website that we have maintained for over nine years and the tech problems that caused a lot of problems for the company and our customers. We are happy to answer questions about bariatric surgery and bariatric eating on Facebook as it is social media but we will no longer entertain the drive by bashing by people who have malice as chief intent."

This might suggest that customers should re-send their information to the business, to re-submit orders that should have been shipped months ago.  Or perhaps she might be open to communication?

That is if the EMAIL worked - I have emailed repeatedly  to various names with no response.  Yesterday's email - just bounced back -

Or if the phone worked.   Call this number and tell me what happens to YOUR call.

Screen Shot 2012-07-15 at 6.50.32 PM

  • You can't send an email.
  • You can't leave a message.

You try.  Let me know if ANY of these work for you!

Methinks she doesn't WANT communication.

Day 91 and day 51.

Bariatric Eating Susan Maria Leach Network in Foreclosure - Sorry, kids, you're never getting your money back.

293715_429370330440714_1367585718_n

Day EIGHTY NINE since I ordered from Bariatric Eating, and it became clear yesterday at 8:30am that I may never see my orders since Susan Maria Leach's business is now in various stages of foreclosure.

"If a property owner defaults on the payments of a loan a foreclosure of a claim of lien indicates a creditor may take legal action to acquire the collateral applied for the aforementioned loan. A number of states permit lenders to take possession of a property put up as collateral through strict foreclosure.

This means the lender may reclaim said property by declaring that the owner has missed payment/s on a loan. Other states need the lending entity to litigate and file a suit for foreclosure, and gain judgment prior to confiscating and selling off the property.

The amount attained from a foreclosure sale is primarily used to pay the associated debt, plus any related foreclosure expense. In case the proceeds are greater than the debt, the difference goes to the borrower. If the amount cannot cover the debt, a deficiency balance occurs. The lender may choose to go after other assets of the property owner.

They'll be taking the shelves, and I guarantee there is no product on those shelves to sell off.  BUT - If there's an auction sale, anyone want to field trip?

We all lose.  File a complaint with the FTC, you're never getting your product or your money back.

Thanks, SML
